Marta Mckenzie

About Marta

Toronto based artist, Marta McKenzie, aka Martallica, is a creator, not a consumer.

She does not do flowers, kittens or puppies … unless they are imbued with the morbid or the unfamiliar. Her black and white drawings represent the marginalized, the macabre and all things reflecting internal complexity. Darkly comedic, the artist's characters reflect her joie de vivre.

Martallica holds a BFA from York University where she studied lithography, etching and screen-printing.

Her work has been displayed in galleries and spaces such as the Gladstone Hotel, Propeller Gallery, Quinn West, Sleeping Giant Gallery, F13, Starving Artist and Hart House Gallery, U. of T. As well, a short film featuring her drawings was screened in The Rendezvous with Madness Festival in 2010. She has taken part in community related events such as Zine Dream. Published work includes The Toronto Sun and other province based editorial work. Prepare to be challenged in unsuspected ways when tuning in to Martallica's world.
